Jude Tucker is a well established artist who has explored many different mediums including ceramics, printmaking and drawing.
In 2003 in an attempt to recover from a period of 'Artists Block' she went to Portland for a week to
carve stone in Tout Quarry. This marked the beinning of her life as a stone carver....
After a year studying stone masonry at Bath College she moved to London to do a post gradate course in stone carving at the City and Guilds of London Art College. Whilst there she had the opportunity to design and carve two grotesques for St. George's Chapel, Windsor
In 2007 she was offered her first exhibition of sculpture with jaggedart gallery who now represent her work.
Commissions and exhibitions include:
Onform, Asthall Manor, Glos
The Garden Gallery – Stockbridge, Hampshire
Collect (The Saatchi Gallery) with jaggedart
2 grotesques for St George's Chapel, Windsor
'Wavespell' - large sculpture for Colletta, Italy - commissioned through the Bernard Noble Foundation Prize 2011
SeaSculpt - over a period 5 years Jude has run residential 3 day carving courses at her workshop in Swanage
After working as a painter for many years, it is only in the last 17 years that Jude has found renewed inspiration in three dimensional forms and discovered a natural affinity with stone. Her history as a painter is apparent in her sensitivity to her surfaces which call for them to be touched. Her typical scale invites the caress, enticing and never
intimidating.
These forms ignite the memory of the organic forms that inhabit both the ancient geological past and the tangible present. They call to mind the life that preceded the geological formation, the rock that endured. The beautiful and resonant forms she has uncovered cross time creating fleeting subtle chimera
